Thomas Bachmann

director of automotive engineering group

Prof. Bachmann graduated to Dipl.-Ing. in 1992 at Darmstadt Technical University. Subsequently, he received his PhD degree in a joint research project with Pennsylvania State University (US) in 1998. He conducted research projects with Porsche and Daimler-Benz at the Darmstadt Automotive Engineering Group and has some 25 years of industrial experience at BMW in leading R&D positions as well as in managerial functions. Since 2022, Prof. Bachmann has been a professor and director of the automotive engineering group at the Technical University of Ilmenau. His research interests include automated and connected vehicles, non-exhaust emissions and sustainable mobility.
