Simulate ozone attack to combat surface cracking

Virtually all tires operate in environments where ozone is present. Endurica’s latest software is designed to help customers simulate the impact of ozone on tire lettering and sidewalls and within tread patterns.
Lettering on tires and tread pattern design are key factors in tire design and sales. Ozone is a trace gas that reacts strongly with some rubbers to produce surface cracking following exposure – a less-than-desirable effect on tire sidewalls and especially on tire lettering. Ozone-induced cracks create checkerboard or scaling effects, limiting useful product life even when mechanical cycles operate below the mechanical fatigue threshold.
Endurica’s latest software, combined with the company’s Fatigue Property Mapping materials characterization ozone test, provides advanced ozone simulation capability to help tire manufacturers devise more durable solutions.
