The influence of SSBR microstructure on the performance properties of PCR tread

Different grades of SSBR are commercially available with varying microstructure, glass transition temperature (Tg) and viscosity. Thus, to full fill the performance properties of a tire, several options are now available to select the suitable SSBR grades. This paper reveals a study of two different SSBRs with varying Tg in different blend ratios for silica-reinforced PCR tread cap compounds. The compounds were characterized for physical, dynamic mechanical, wear and fatigue resistance properties. It was found that a compound with low Tg SSBR was suitable for better rolling resistance and a higher Tg of rubber helped improve traction.
