Rubber recycling
Lehigh Technologies

Specialty chemicals company Lehigh Technologies recently opened a plant in Olsztyn, Poland, to introduce its technology to the European marketplace and produce micronized rubber powders (MRP) for tires. The company also has the world's largest MRP plant, located in Tucker, Georgia.

Lehigh’s patented Cryogenic Turbo Mill technology enables the production of micronized rubber powder with a finer structure and higher quality than competitive technologies. The powder is offered exclusively as a commercial semi-finished product for use in new tires, industrial rubber products, plastics, composites, cement matrices, construction, and oil and gas applications. The company's annual production capacity is more than 50,000 tons.

Transforming used tires into high-value products is a sustainable, circular solution that helps the environment and the circular economy. The use of MRP reduces the carbon footprint by 50% and the need for minerals by up to 70%.

Not only does the use of micronized rubber powders create a more sustainable and circular economy but it also delivers lower production costs. A passenger car tire factory producing 10 million tires per year can save more than US$2m by using Lehigh’s MRP.
