Tire/road noise: Michelin’s holistic approach for optimal reduction

03 Mar 2026
Room 4
Advanced modeling, simulation, analysis, test and development - session 1
With the ambition to always propose a better life in motion, Michelin is continuously studying the environmental impacts of its tires. One of these impacts occurring during usage is tire/road noise. To enhance citizens’ quality of life, a proper analysis needs a holistic approach as there are different ways to limit tire/road noise. This study analyzes the effectiveness of several levers such as tire, road surface and usage conditions to evaluate their importance for tire/road noise reduction. In this holistic perspective, the time needed to get tangible benefits from such levers also has to be considered.
  • The different influence factors to be considered to get an holistic view of the effect of tire/road noise on the quality of life
  • Scenario analysis based on different levers: tire, road surface, usage and driving conditions
  • An insight on the time response of these different levers
  • Comparison of the scenario to find the most efficient approach to enhance the quality of life
