Time for new ideas and approaches to rubber recipe creation

04 Mar 2026
Room 2
Materials, chemicals and related processes – developments and innovations - session 2
Recipes for rubber compounds are typically formulated as a list of raw materials with Phr (parts per hundred polymer) coordinates. This recipe format has been established for utilization in both laboratory and production facilities. Phr recipes primarily control the ratio of polymers and cross-linking chemicals. However, there are other raw materials that are better designed in other coordinates. Here it is shown how the Phr system can be expanded: specially, highly filled silica compounds will be easier to control. The creation of rework recipes is important in production. Compensation recipes are discussed, including the math (addition and subtraction) of recipes.
  • The Phr data format is the input format for the production of rubber compounds
  • Phr coordinates are not generally helpful for designing a rubber recipe
  • How to extend a current Phr recipe editor with other coordinates for recipe design
  • Methodology required to formulate high-filled silica recipes
  • Calculating with recipes: Computation of compensation recipes for the recycling of rework in rubber production
