Materials, chemicals and related processes – developments and innovations - session 1
The presentation deals with fatigue abrasion, which is particularly responsible for the mass loss of passenger car tires. Within a physical model, one of the key laboratory parameters is a Wöhler-like fatigue parameter. An accelerated lab test procedure using notched samples on the (Coesfeld) Tear Fatigue Analyzer is proposed, whereby a specific service life characteristic value will be defined. Furthermore, ElasTiC will show – using an Intrinsic Strength Analyzer – how fatigue abrasion is influenced by the intrinsic strength T0 of the rubber. We combine these values with the data of fatigue crack growth (TFA) to obtain a thorough understanding of rubber abrasion.
- Distinguishing between different types of rubber abrasion and wear in tire practice and predictive testing
- The specific role of fatigue wear and its relationship to Woehler-like fatigue parameters
- Predictive testing and modeling of fatigue wear and comparison with real-world tire testing
- The role of intrinsic rubber strength and its scientific background
- The performance of laboratory test methods such as Intrinsic Strength Analyzer and Tear Fatigue Analyzer in predicting abrasion parameters
