Materials, chemicals and related processes – developments and innovations - session 3
Key properties of natural rubber (NR) that lend its usefulness to truck tire applications are its high content of cis-1, 4-polyisoprene and its ability to undergo strain-induced crystallization (SIC). While the utilization of silica and traditional silanes, like TESPT, in NR tread formulations has resulted in significant gains in rolling resistance reduction, it comes with a significant penalty in wear resistance. This is possibly due to interference with NR’s ability for SIC. NRX silane is an innovative silane that reduces the interference of the silane with the SIC of NR in silica/NR formulations, which may result in improved wear performance.
