Test, analysis and mitigation of wear and particle emissions
Tire-road contact is a major source of non-exhaust particulate matter, yet quantifying the contribution of individual tires under real-world conditions is challenging. A vehicle was equipped with the new iMPES sensor system, enabling distributed, time-resolved measurement of PM1–PM100. Measurements on a prepared test track were combined with GNSS and driving dynamics. Round-based normalization allows for cycle comparability and the identification of dynamic emission patterns. Initial results show correlations between particle dynamics, speed and driving style. The methodology provides a basis for objective assessment of tire emissions and supports differentiation of particle sources.
