Building a sustainable tire industry – advances and initiatives - session 2
The presentation will highlight significant compounds to show which ones were there by virtue of being a core material in tires, such as synthetic rubber, as distinct from performance-giving additives and manufacturing additives such as extender oils. Trends and patterns will then be shown to compare tire composition between regions, manufacturers and over time to elucidate the rationale for why the highlighted compounds are present in the tire at all. Specific illustrations will show whether EV-specialist tires are genuinely different from standard tires or just empty marketing.
- The chemical compounds in the latest tires
- How much of the toxic burden comes from the raw materials and how much from additives
- If the latest budget tires are more toxic than standard tires
- If the latest EV tires are loss toxic than standard tires
- Trade-offs between design, regulation and environmental/health harms
