The Tire Abrasion Task Force came up with two ways to figure out how much tire abrasion there is. The tests must be done exactly as described. Finally, the mass loss of the tires is calculated and compared to a reference tire. Things like the weather, driving conditions and the car's design can all affect how well it performs in the outdoors. It's hard to use sandpaper indoors because its properties change too quickly during tire tests. We can now use the results of the reference tires and the abrasion index to find weak points and improve the methods.
