The tire industry – outlook, challenges and developments
Future tire regulation is likely to be shaped by deeper global harmonization, e.g. under the dedicated UNECE agreements, including the continued development of the Global Technical Regulation on tires. Alongside upcoming rules targeting microplastic emissions, tire abrasion and/or mileage performance, and new ESPR requirements for tires, European tire regulation is also shifting toward stricter chemical controls. Moreover, the European Deforestation Regulation has introduced new obligations for tire supply chains. In the future, companies must ensure plantation‑level geolocation and full due‑diligence compliance. The EUDR, with the recently implemented amendments to the legislation, will have significant implications for global supply chains and international markets.
