Reinforcement – developments in performance, sustainability, materials and manufacturing
Textile cords are widely employed in rubber composites to improve dimensional stability, mechanical strength and flexibility, thereby enabling tires to operate safely under service conditions. The effectiveness of textile cord reinforcement in tires is directly governed by the adhesion between the rubber matrix and the textile cords. Various strategies have been investigated to enhance this adhesion, including physical surface treatments, chemical modifications and interfacial enhancements. In this study, textile cords were modified through gamma-ray irradiation to strengthen interfacial bonding. Subsequently, the mechanical properties and adhesion performance of the modified textile cords were systematically examined.
