Evaluation of wear particle leachability

05 Mar 2026
Room 3
Test, analysis and mitigation of wear and particle emissions
This study evaluates the leachability of wear particles from tire tread compounds. Variables include filler type, polymer grades and wear methods. Rate of leachability for 6PPD, 6PPDq, TMQ, DPG and Zinc into water are evaluated. The leachability analysis includes an environmental exposure period of the particles, a water soak and analysis of the water after soak by GC-MS SPME to determine the rate of migration of these chemicals into water.
  • How fillers in tread compounds impact the migration of 6PPD and other migratable ingredients into water
  • How polymer types in tread compounds impact the migration of 6PPD and other migratable ingredients into water
  • Best methods for creating synthetic wear particles
  • Functionality of the Ueshima FPS AB-2020P to make, classify and analyze wear particles
  • Best methods for quantitating 6PPD and 6PPDq migration into water
