Room 1
Building a sustainable tire industry – advances and initiatives - session 3
Carbon black (CB), a critical reinforcing material for tires, is produced from carbon-rich feedstocks. While a significant amount of feedstock carbon is sequestered in the final product, the manufacturing process also generates CO2 emissions. This presentation will compare Cabot’s product carbon footprint against the International Carbon Black Association (ICBA) benchmark while also sharing Cabot’s assessment of the pathways to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions, including the opportunities and challenges of using sustainable feedstocks. The presentation will share insights into a novel carbon capture technology that is uniquely tailored to CB and is in the process of scale-up by Cabot.
The key components, standardized methodology and primary components behind calculating the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of carbon black
How to compare technology pathways for decarbonizing carbon black, with a clear view of their advantages and limitations
The potential of using sustainable feedstocks in the carbon black process, including both benefits and challenges in implementation
Insight into Cabot’s novel carbon capture process and how Cabot is scaling this technology for carbon black decarbonization
