Analysis of electric vehicle driving characteristics and tire wear

04 Mar 2026
Room 1
Developing tires for advanced and future vehicles and applications
This study quantitatively analyzes the relationship between driving dynamics and tire wear using real-world driving data from electric vehicles. By applying the Field Driving Severity Number (FDSN) methodology, longitudinal acceleration showed greater severity and a stronger correlation with tire wear than lateral acceleration. Additionally, analysis of vehicle powertrain data confirmed EV-specific characteristics, including the linear relationship between motor torque and longitudinal acceleration. These findings provide foundational insights for developing EV-specific tire wear prediction algorithms, particularly in selecting and prioritizing key input variables based on actual driving severity and motor behavior.
  • A quantitative analysis of electric vehicle driving characteristics and root cause findings
  • A novel approach to quantifying driving severity
  • The correlation between driving characteristics and tire wear effects
