Tires are becoming a leading source of particulate emissions from modern vehicles, gaining interest in a range of different academic disciplines due to their potential to impact ecosystems and human health. To foster collaboration between engineering and other research domains, Loughborough University is leading a UK government-funded project to establish a network of stakeholders with a shared interest in tire emissions: the Tyre Particulate Emissions (TyPE) network. This presentation will outline TyPE’s goals and share some of its latest activities, including relevant simulation and testing capabilities at Loughborough University.
- Findings to date from the TyPE network
- Benefits of engaging with the TyPE network
- Recent tire friction and wear results from Loughborough University’s test facilities
- Model developments for predicting particulate emissions
- Overview of a new method to infer tire wear and emissions from driving data
