Active flow field design to capture tire wear particles

Test, analysis and mitigation of wear and particle emissions
Based on optical measurements of the flow field behind a turning tire by PIV (particle image velocimetry), which gave detailed understanding of the boundary layer behavior, the flow in this region can be designed in that tire wear particles can be captured up to a high percentage. The main part of the flow design is a injection and suction device (TSS – tire suction system), which separates the boundary layer of the wheel and the street leading the particles toward a filter system. The efficiency of TSS is proven by investigation of the flow by optical measurement technique (PIV).
