Applus+ IDIADA provides comprehensive tire characterization services that analyze both subjectively and objectively how tires contribute to overall vehicle performance. Understanding that tire behavior is influenced by wheel motion controlled by the vehicle chassis, IDIADA's approach integrates tire evaluation within complete vehicle systems to deliver accurate real-world performance assessments.

Our tire characterization services encompass both subjective and objective evaluation methodologies across multiple testing environments. Subjective evaluations focus on comfort, noise, steering performance, and longitudinal behavior under winter, wet, and dry track conditions. These assessments are conducted at IDIADA's proving ground in Spain, winter test tracks, tire manufacturers' proving grounds, reference race circuits, and public roads worldwide.

Objective tire evaluations include comprehensive braking tests measuring stopping distances and deceleration across various surfaces including aquaplaning conditions, ceramic tiles, high-friction asphalt, basalt slabs, treated concrete, and gravel safety areas. Specialized aquaplaning tests evaluate tire performance during acceleration and in curves, providing critical safety data for wet weather conditions.

Dynamic testing capabilities cover dry and wet tire efficiency evaluation through ride comfort testing using both deterministic and stochastic inputs, handling assessment including straight driving and step-steer maneuvers, and active safety testing with lane change maneuvers and rollover propensity assessment. Steady-state and transient driving tests further characterize wet dynamics tire efficiency.

Applus+ IDIADA's NVH testing services measure both interior and exterior tire noise contributions, including coast-by testing for exterior noise assessment. Running resistance and emissions testing analyzes tire contributions to whole-vehicle performance and environmental impact.

Tire wear testing represents a specialized durability service conducted on public roads under dry conditions throughout the year. These tests utilize custom driving programs based on clients' reference circuits, with tire property measurements taken at different mileage intervals to track performance degradation over time.

The facility offers project management capabilities for evaluating multiple tire sets and supports joint testing initiatives for collaborative evaluations. Testing locations include the IDIADA headquarters and technical center in Santa Oliva, Spain, along with global testing capabilities on public roads worldwide.
