Dalia Broggi is a Project Manager for Scientific Research at the European Commission Joint Research Centre. She is in charge of the organization and deployment of Market Surveillance activities for road vehicle safety. She also deals with pre-normative research and contributes to regulatory development on topics related to vehicle safety, including tyres, ADAS functions and autonomous vehicles. She has 10 years of experience in the automotive sector, with a particular focus on tyre development.

Wet braking of worn tires: Real-world assessment of regulatory requirements

The new regulatory requirements on wet grip of worn tires aim to ensure that tire performance is assessed also at the end of their life i.e. when worn, advocating that tires should meet requirements throughout their life and not be replaced prematurely. Wet braking, a critical performance affecting road safety, dramatically deteriorates in worn tires. For practical reasons, the current regulation sets criteria on buffed tires (new tires with artificially reduced tread depth); however, naturally worn tires may perform differently due to several other factors. This joint study between JRC and UNINA aims to investigate any performance discrepancies.
