Solvay Silica is committed to driving sustainable innovation in the automotive industry, paving the way for a future where high performance and sustainability coexist. It continues to innovate with specialty precipitated silica grades, as seen in the company’s latest achievements in wear and rolling resistance, to boost EV battery autonomy. Beyond performance enhancements, Solvay is actively pursuing circular solutions and products with a reduced environmental footprint. When it begins industrial production of rice husk ash highly dispersible silica in Italy in 2025, Solvay will become the first bio-circular HDS producer in Europe.
Solvay’s latest research focuses on optimizing silica use in tread and non-tread tire applications to enhance tire performance and reduce the CO2 footprint. The company is exploring compound formulation optimization using Solvay Zeosil specialty silica grades. Partially replacing carbon black in tread and non-tread applications for passenger car and truck tires improves wear resistance by up to 30%, increases circularity by over 10% and reduces the CO2 footprint from raw material by up to 6%.
