Andrea Stefanelli

Eng. Andrea Stefanelli graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of Naples Federico II and is currently a PhD student in industrial engineering under the supervision of Prof. Aleksandr Sakhnevych and Eng. Stefano Bosa, in collaboration with Brembo SpA. His research focuses on the development of control logics for the combined system of tire and brake, taking into account the thermal interaction between them. He is also involved in dynamic validation of the brake system, analyzing it under different operating conditions, such as when ABS is activated, with the goal of integrating this model into the combined system described earlier.

Impact of thermodynamics on tire-brake interaction and vehicle

The interaction between brakes and tires is essential for vehicle safety and performance. This study presented by Brembo and the University of Naples examines how thermodynamic changes in tires affect safety systems like ABS and ESC. By comparing simulated and experimental data, the research reveals how braking and tire performance shift under different conditions. A central focus is on MF Tire 5.2 and 6.2 models, showing how thermodynamic factors influence ABS in both longitudinal and lateral maneuvers. Brembo’s expertise enhances the findings, providing valuable insights into braking and steering dynamics, crucial for future advancements in vehicle safety and performance optimization.
